Joy to the world! Is there some way that you could spread joy this Christmas to others? Is there a food bank near you, where you could volunteer even one day to help those who need you?
Perhaps, your police department, like mine, has a program set up, where they collect teddy bears for police officers to give out when they make domestic violence calls to houses where there are children present. You could encourage your local department stores to donate teddy bears to this very worthy cause.
You could even help your church or local charity to distribute a Christmas dinner to a family who needs it, or you could clean an elderly person's house or garage. Don't forget to donate toys to Toys for Tots, this Christmas.
I know you're very excited about Christmas
and excited about all the gifts you'll get! Maybe, if you're a Mom,
you're just plain worn out this holiday season, but please don't forget
the joy that you can help bring to someone else. Maybe, you could take
an elderly person Christmas shopping just one morning or afternoon
or even just visit and listen to them talk. That's one whole afternoon
out of your entire year. It's not that long. Christmas is
a very difficult time for a widow or a widower. They have the
pain of not having their spouse with them this Christmas (and New Year's).
Let's not leave them all alone as we rush all around decorating the
house and baking a zillion cookies! At least half of those cookies
are just going to set and dry out anyway (sad though it is). So come
on! Let's go spread some selfless, Christmas cheer this year!
