I know that Taps is a mournful song. The only three times I've heard it played were at my grandfathers' funerals. Funny, my Grandpa Ballard said that it wasn't sad to him; when he was in the US Army, it meant that it was time to rest when Taps was played. Nothing or no one would bother him until morning.
Let's not get so wrapped up in vacations, etc., this Memorial Day, that we forget to remember those who've made our freedoms, as United States citizens, possible. Take a moment to remember them and to discuss with your children what Memorial Day is all about. : ) So many men and women gave their lives to protect us and our freedoms; they fully deserve our respect and appreciation! Included in this group are police officers and firemen too; let's not forget to give them the respect they fully deserve either. They all need our prayers and our support. Perhaps, you could even take some flowers to a cemetary and put them on a forgotten soldier's grave. God bless them, every one.
Let's not forget those who still haven't come home.
Once again, thanks Doc:
