Friend

A friend is someone who will care,
and always be there;
Someone who understands,
and likes to hold hands;
Take my advice;
A friend should always be nice,
someone to play with,
someone you want to be every day with,
someone you really like.

Grandpa,

You were always there;
you always showed me that you cared.
When my soul cried out in desperation,
you were there with love and wisdom,
showing me God's grand beauty and grace,
while your Irish eyes twinkled in your gentle face.
You were strong until the end;
Oh, it hurt so much!
Then, it was my turn to be your friend.
I miss you so now;
why did you have to go now?
But it's selfishness that ponders this.
For you have no more pain,
no more sorrow,
no more heartache;
You're with our Lord.
I would not for all the riches in this universe
wish you back into the decaying prison you were in,
with the pain, the suffering, the heartache.....
I will carry on as you have told me.
I will carry this torch for the children,
for our family;
I will serve our Lord, Jesus Christ, until the end.
It's because of you Grandpa, my dear,
that I know true freedom,
not that that the world promises to give,
but everlasting freedom for my eternal soul.
For you led me to the Giver of freedom.
Some day, I will soar with eagle's wings,
as you already have, Grandpa,
to that place that is my true home.
That place where I may constantly be in my God's Presence,
where I will forever see your loving Irish eyes twinkling at me,
that place where we are really, truly free.
