Hello! Valentine's Day is one of our favorite holidays around here, and I think part of the reason is because we MAKE valentines to give to those we care about. We just start with good, old-fashioned construction paper in any color from pink to red to purple or white. Fold a sheet of it in half, to make the card, and decorate the front of it with paper doilies or hearts that you've cut out of another color of the paper. Then, decorate the inside of your homemade card with more paper doilies or with paper hearts, and write a heart-felt message in it Voila! You have a beautiful, homemade valentine!
Something else you can do, is to glue a string of bead trim around the outside edge of the card. You can even outline one of your hearts, on the front, with bead trim. The pearly, bead trim is especially lovely. If you like, you can punch holes around the front, outside edge of the card and string 1/4 inch, satin ribbon through the holes. This looks especially nice if the holes are punched out with a heart punch. Leaving the ribbon out and showing-off the pretty, heart-shaped holes is nice, too. There is so much you can do! Just use your imagination! Oh, don't forget to use a gold, paint pen to write your special messages with; it adds that special touch. You can find all of the above supplies at a good craft store.

One more special valentine treat for Grandma and Grandpa is to have the kids sing songs (valentine songs!) and tape them onto a cassette. This is especially nice if you live far away. Grandma and Grandpa can listen to their grandchildren whenever they want.
